Residents age 55 or older who are active and like to help others in volunteer service have an income opportunity.  Bluegrass Community Action Partnership (BGCAP) needs some new Senior Companion volunteers!  Must meet income limits.  Benefits include a tax-free stipend of $2.65/hour that supplements their other income, a free annual physical exam, reimbursement for travel cost to client homes, and training.
Volunteers work 20 or more hours each week with their clients. Volunteers provide supportive one-on-one services to the home bound, frail elderly who without help are at risk of institutionalization. Volunteers may prepare meals, perform light housekeeping tasks, remind clients to take their medicine, and other tasks.  Above all, Senior Companions provide companionship which  brightens the day of homebound elderly who may be lonely or suffer from depression.
To apply: contact Kristi Hunt at BGCAP by phone
1-800-456-6571 ext. 262, or 502-848-8701,
Or pick up an application at the Housing Authority office.
In-home Senior Companion services are provided at no charge to clients.  If you know someone 60 years of age or older who needs Homecare to stay at home, contact Blue Grass Area Aging on Aging & In-dependent Living at 1-866-665-7921.
