Senior Commodities Delivery Services
Through the collaboration and partnership with a local church, more than twenty elderly residents are now able to have food from the USDA's Commodity Supplemental Food Program delivered right to their door. After Resident Services staff were made aware that several residents had missed their appointments to pick up their commodities on the designated date and time, it was determined that this was primarily because the residents were "shut-ins" who had difficulty leaving their homes due to health reasons.
To address the issue, Resident Services staff now assists on a monthly basis at the commodities distribution site. Staff assist by unloading the commodities truck, packing food boxes, and then delivering them to the housing authority residents who have been identified as being "shut-in". This delivery service allows the Resident Services program to fulfill its goal of supporting and strengthening elderly residents by providing opportunities to meet their basic needs, enhance the quality of life, and to assist with aging-in-place. This service will continue on a monthly basis at no cost to the agency.
